The electrifying book In Her Own Right by Chelsea Madeline is an intimate exploration of the myths, realities, and legacies of creative women across time.
This exhibit showcases select excerpts from the book and is a response to Chelsea's call for us to value, preserve, and champion not just the creative outputs of women but the space and time required for artistic pursuits.
The exhibit is augmented by a selection of books by and about the female artists featured in In Her Own Right. From Sappho to Taylor Swift, Judy Blume to Jamaica Kincaid, Hilma af Klint to Lee Krasner, the range is sweeping and awesome in the most literal sense of the word.

Sanctuary Circle with Susan Bates
tuesday, OCTOBER 21, 5:30-6:45 PM
In this 75-minute gathering, you’re invited to pause, reflect, and listen to yourself and others in a gently facilitated circle. Circle offers a place to be reassured that you are not alone, that you are enough, and to pay attention to that inner voice that can be drowned out by the day to day.
There will be no wisdom handed down and no fixing. All agree to hold everything shared in confidence.
The themes for this circle will arise from particular passages in Chelsea Madeline’s book In Her Own Right. Together we’ll explore questions around power and wisdom and the webs that link us.
With the guidance of seasoned circle leader, Susan Bates, each of us will reflect and give voice to what arises. Reading the book before will enrich your experience, but is not required. Participation is limited to 10 and anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to attend.

Writing Workshop with Kim Agnew & Jillian Hanson

This generative writing workshop led by Kim Agnew and Jillian Hanson of Blue Sky Press, draws prompts from the book In Her Own Right, by Chelsea Madeline.
It's not just for those who consider themselves writers, and it’s not simply about writing. Together, we’ll reflect on passages from Chelsea’s book and see what they spark within each of us. We’ll have a chance to explore what arises, share what gets written (without fear of critique), and perhaps allow for something new to be created together.

What idea or vision is calling you? What is the feeling, desire, or creative impulse that won’t leave you alone? Join this gathering to consider, give voice to, and begin to manifest what your heart most wants. You don’t need to know anything about it. You don’t need a “plan”. You need bring only yourself and tender words about what wants to happen. no matter who, where, how (or how old) you are in this moment.
This offering, led by Kim Agnew and Jillian Hanson of Blue Sky Press is a continuation of the energy that’s been sparking from the book. In Her Own Right by Chelsea Madeline and moving through the Sanctuary these past months. It marks the culmination of the In Her Own Right exhibit, not as an ending, but as a transformative threshold into agency, (re-)imagining, and (r)evolution.
