"In Her Own Right" Exhibit July 22 - September 30

about

The electrifying book In Her Own Right by Chelsea Madeline is an intimate exploration of the myths, realities, and legacies of creative women across time.

This exhibit showcases select excerpts from the book and is a response to Chelsea's call for us to value, preserve, and champion not just the creative outputs of women but the space and time required for artistic pursuits.

The exhibit is augmented by a selection of books by and about the female artists featured in In Her Own Right. From Sappho to Taylor Swift, Judy Blume to Jamaica Kincaid, Hilma af Klint to Lee Krasner, the range is sweeping and awesome in the most literal sense of the word.

Full Moon Astrology Readings with Kate Greene

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 11 AM - 2 PM

These 30-minute sessions are designed to explore what’s coming to the surface. Using the moon’s symbolism in your chart and the themes of the full moon, Kate will illuminate what is blooming, revealing itself, or asking to be released.

These readings offer a space to witness culmination, clarity, and emotional truth—both within and around you. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of your current symbolic landscape and a meaningful gesture to honor what has come to light.

"Conversations with Dead Poets" Tuesday, September 23

ABOUT

At this special event organized by Millay House Rockland, contemporary writers will speak to their relationships with poets from earlier eras - each of whom left a significant mark on American culture. Together, we will explore, interrogate, celebrate, and creatively respond to their indelible poems.

This conversation between four living writers and four who have “shuffled off this mortal coil” includes Maine’s Poet Laureate Julia Bouwsma on Edna St. Vincent Millay; Rosa Lane on Emily Dickinson; Samaa Abdurraqib on June Jordan; and A. O. Scott on Thom Gunn.

Books by the living and dead poets will be available for purchase on site.

LOCATION: Arctic Tern Sanctuary, 434 Main Street, Rockland, Maine
